Our First Anniversary

To celebrate our first anniversary in August we arranged a thanks giving party.  It was imcredible to know that we were slowly  but surely making a difference in our school.  Thanks to Mr Zungu for his support.

We still dream about increasing our impact into the whole community.

Makaphutu Children’s Village

From the onset, we had incredible support from everyone at Makaphutu Children’s Village.  Several of our members live at Makaphutu and we are inspired by the work that they do in the community.

Mr Wade Woods was incredibly helpful in guiding us right from the beginning – he gave us many ideas and made us think carefull about how we were going to implement our ideas.

Mr Nic Addison continued this support when he was appointed as manager.  He encouraged us and helped us in many practical ways.  He supplied us with the soup mix we used for the feeding scheme.

Cyprian, the chef at Makaphutu taught us how to make the soup.

Our sincere thanks to all at Makaphutu!  http://bit.ly/O0Xthi

High School Leadership Training

In December 2010, the Committee attended the High Schools Leadership Training Course at World Changers Academy (http://www.wca-sa.org/index.html) where they learnt many skills and made new friends.

Ten other members had the priviledge to attend the same course in 2011 – our sincere thanks to friends who sponsored us.   Andile and Sizwe this time attended as facilitators and volunteers.  We learnt that we are able to persevere and do so much more than we think, that we we were born with a purpose and that we needed to set goals and have a vision for our lives.  We were also guided into healing of the past and forgiving those who hurt us in our past.  The course had a sad ending as one of our class friends passed away during that week and we went straight to his funeral from the course.

First Meals

From our observations, questionnaires that we sent out and interviews with the teachers, we determined which children needed to be part of the feeding scheme (approximately 40).  We were very excited when we served the first meals at school and everyone loved the food!

Raising Funds – Vegetable Gardens

We want to provide food, schoolfees and school uniforms for those who cannot afford it, and to achieve this we planted vegetables to use for food and to sell to raise funds.  Our first garden was at Light Providers.  Sadly goats came in and ate the vegetables!  We then moved the garden to school, which was a more practical arrangement as we could look after it during the school day.
